The HMS Whirlwind lies 20 miles southwest of Aberystwyth, and lies within a missile target area. It is essential to carry Marine VHF radio so contact the MOD at Aberporth to check if the area is active. The Whirlwind lies on her port side, intact, and with forward guns pointing upwards. This more than 80m long vessel lies at 36meter deep and is covered in Dead Mans fingers. She is built in 1943, resembles a Hunt Class destroyer and sank in 1974.
You can arrive at her at LW slack water. She can be located on the depth sounder. There are places to penetrate, the forward section, battle bridge where a large bronze Kent rotating screen can be found.
