The county Dorset is situated in the southwest of England, south of Somerset including the bustling towns of Bournemouth and Poole. You can find museums, scenic parks, classic bars, evening entertainment and plenty of water activities. Tourist attractions are the seaside town of Swanage located between Old Harry Rocks and Peveril Point with its Victorian 150 meter long pier and a historic steam train that brings you to nearby Corfe Castle. Other attractions in Dorset are the stunning countryside of Purbeck, the golden sands and beaches near Shell Bay and the picturesque places Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door. Most of its fantastic coast, with all its fossils and geology, is part of the greater Jurassic Coast that runs from Dorset all the way to Cornwall.
Those who know about scuba diving in Dorset will point to the brilliant eastward facing Swanage Bay, which is indeed the most popular bay for divers. The shore dive Swanage Pier, shortly known as the Pier, is one of the best in the south of England and you will find a wide range of critters, juveniles and small fish. A few miles offshore lies the Kyarra, one of the most famous wreck dives in England, torpedoed in 1918 at the end of WWI. The waters in the south of England can reach temperatures of 20 degrees in summer and are extremely nutrient rich with currents coming from the English Channel. Enjoy this great dive destination.
